UNCOVERING NORTHERN WELLBEING: HAVING LESS LIFESTYLE

We live in a society that prides itself on having and wanting more.We often associate more with status, security, comfort and control. But the more you externally desire, the further you get away from yourself, and the more you have to lose.

Could there be more joy to be found in minimalist living than can be found pursuing more?

Minimalism has many amazingly-practical benefits into our lives. It costs less. It requires less time and energy to maintain. It brings freedom, rest, peace, and calm into a hectic world. And it provides greater opportunity to pursue our truest passions.

It has also said that minimalism lifestyle can be beneficial for your physical and mental health. Scientific evidence suggests that clutter elevates cortisol levels and disrupts focus. Minimalism is an antidote to that state of overload.

If you're overwhelmed with busyness, perhaps you should take a few lessons from Scandinavian minimalism?

Of course, it's important to acknowledge that by no means does everyone in Scandinavia live such a lifestyle! But there are many examples of Scandinavian minimalism that can be found in design and lifestyle throughout the region, and one major example would be our relationship with nature.

Many share the love of the outdoors. The lifestyle is all about spending time as close to nature as possible, whether on the hiking trails, cross-country skiing trails or overnight in a remote mountain cabin.

Scandinavian design is all about open spaces, minimalist and functional furniture, and bright homes. In most cases we don’t clutter our homes with unnecessary items—instead we have furniture and objects that we will use - and appreciate.

Conceptually, adopting Nordic minimalism means bringing peace and nature into your home without creating an uninviting or cluttered space. If there's one phrase that sums up Scandinavian design principles, it's that “less is more.”

Are you ready for a lifestyle having less?
